Your rental application documents

For popular flats, the application file often makes the difference. A complete, well-organised PDF shows the property manager at a glance that you are reliable.

The usual documents

  • Debt collection extract (Betreibungsauszug), not older than three months
  • Copy of passport or ID card, and the residence permit for foreign nationals
  • Payslips for the last three months or your employment contract
  • Proof of personal liability insurance, if requested
  • Optional: a reference from your current landlord

Make it convincing

Combine everything in one PDF and start with a short introduction: who will live there, occupation, reason for moving, preferred move-in date.

Give the file a clear name, for example “Application_Doe_Zurich.pdf”.

Ordering a debt collection extract

Order it from the debt enforcement office of your commune, at the counter or online. If you have only just arrived, add your employment contract or a reference.

Protect your data

Send documents only after the viewing and only through the channel the agency names. Black out numbers on ID copies that are not required.
